About The Foundation
The Empower Veterans End Suicide Foundation was started by Vietnam Veteran, James Shofner.
Mr. Shofner served in Vietnam from 1968-1969.
As a Specialist RA 18865241 assigned to 11-Bravo-10 Combat Infantry, Mr. Schoffner served in many campaigns including the 1969 TET Offensive, Docto, Kontum, Central Highlands, AR67251 and other campaigns.
Mr. Shofner returned home from his service to our country and soon found that the horrors of war that he had experienced led to debilitating emotional and phycological issues. He was able to identify these issues as the 5 signs of crisis known as GAADD; Guilt, Anger, Attitude, Depression and Despair. These signs can often lead to thoughts of suicide. Through various outlets for treatment and working with other returning Veterans, Mr. Schoffner was able to overcome his desire to stop the pain by committing suicide.
Today James Shofner is at the fore front of a movement to bring awareness to our Government and the American people of this treatable condition many of our returning Veterans suffer.
